  • Rehobeth has reopened its senior center after years-long closure and will serve community members every Thursday – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center plans to welcome seniors with daily activities in the coming weeks.  WTVY
  • The Dothan Fire Department warns local residents during Fire Prevention Week that lithium-ion batteries in phones, tablets, power tools and other devices can overheat and start fires if not charged or disposed of properly+ they urge using safe battery disposal events to avoid hazards.  WTVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band will perform in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026 in New York City as one of 10 bands chosen from over 100 applicants. The band will receive a $10,000 grant to support travel and preparation costs — marking their return after their last appearance in 2021.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wallace Community College-Dothan’s Fine Arts Division received a $5,000 grant to hold an educational vocal clinic led by American Idol finalist Natalie Weiss. She will perform in concert today at 7 p.m.—and lead a free clinic for local high school students tomorrow.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Wiregrass-area high school seniors graduating in spring 2026 may apply for one of 44 $2,500 scholarships offered by Energy Southeast if their families receive power from a participating public utility—applications must be submitted before Feb. 9 through school counselors or online. Since 1992, Energy Southeast has awarded more than $3.5 million in scholarships to help students pursue higher education.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Houston County Schools and WCCD launched new dual enrollment courses that let high school students earn college credits while still learning at school—these programs aim to offer more options for families.  WTVY

  • Carothers and Meadows were picked as new members of the Houston County Health Care Authority — they will help guide decisions on local health care services — and will join future meetings.  Dothan Eagle
  • A new state law prohibits individuals with any felony conviction in the past five years from carrying firearms and bars those with three or more felonies (Oct. 1) while increasing penalties for gun-related crimes, officials say will help enhance public safety.  WTVY
