COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SARCOA is running its Santa for Seniors program to help nearly 500 local older adults and individuals with disabilities get practical household items for Christmas. Donation drop-offs will be on December 6, 12, and 13 — volunteers will also help sort and wrap gifts.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Dothan Aquatics has announced registration for its popular Aquacise program on December 15 and 16 at Westgate Wellness — the program features low-impact water workouts led by enthusiastic instructors. The class offers a supportive way for residents to stay active all year.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Toys for Tots registration began Monday at the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center as the United States Marine Corps Reserve collects new toys for kids in need this Christmas—registration will continue until Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  WTVY

  • Tickets are now on sale for Gardens Aglow at DABG — the event will feature illuminated garden displays that aim to attract local visitors. More details on the schedule and pricing will be announced soon.  Dothan Eagle

  • Dale County Schools broke the state record with its state report card score—an achievement that sets a new benchmark for local education and highlights improved instruction in the district.  Dothan Eagle

  • Pinckard dedicated the flagpole in front of town hall to honor Purple Heart recipients (those wounded or killed in action) in a ceremony held last night.  WTVY

  • A report from March of Dimes gave Alabama an F grade for maternal and infant health — doctors and nonprofits expressed concern about the care expectant mothers received.  WTVY
  • Dothan Fire donated $17,000 for childhood cancer research to help improve treatment and support local families + show its commitment to fighting the disease.  Dothan Eagle
  • On November 12, Southeast Health broke ground on its $80 million expansion that will add over 21,000 square feet to the emergency department, renovate 16,700 square feet, and build two extra floors with 52 beds—hospital leaders and officials joined construction firm Robins & Morton to mark the start of the project.  Wiregrass Daily News
