  • Wiregrass Pets Rescue and Adoption is at capacity as reported by its volunteer coordinator (Dedra Garrey), who asks locals for help via fostering or donating supplies as needed to care for animals.  WTVY
  • Akilli's House (a nonprofit) has launched a sensory bus for autism support that can be booked for local events via their website, offering families a special space for managing sensory needs.  WTVY
  • Wherry Meadows Farm (the venue) will host Christmas on the Farm, a family-friendly holiday event with festive activities for local residents. Brett and Allison Wherry invite community members to join the seasonal celebration.  WTVY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dean Mitchell from HudsonAlpha Wiregrass, Michael Lynch from Chonex, and Scott Deavers from SouthGen Solutions described the new grant (HundsonAlpha Trials Project) that will support innovative research. The project will roll out in the coming weeks.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • HCSO spent time with Wicksburg High School forensic science students during the semester wrap-up by setting up interactive crime scene scenarios (including K-9 handling and drone operations) to offer practical insights into modern investigations.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Marcus Jones, a New England Patriots player, donated $5,000 to Enterprise High School after winning the NFL Way to Play award this season and his gift will support student programs.  WTVY
  • Alabama officials enacted the FOCUS Act on Dec. 19 (championed by Governor Kay Ivey and state legislators) to ban electronic devices in classrooms and curb disruptions. Schools statewide have begun enforcing the rule to boost focus and learning.  WTVY

  • Today, local leaders, family, and colleagues honored Fire Chief Larry Huey Williams (who served 19 years) for his commitment starting in 1982; his retirement takes effect at midnight on Dec. 31 when Deputy Fire Chief David Hasty will assume command.  Rickey Stokes News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Akilli’s House launched its sensory bus last weekend at Whoville and Enterprise to provide autistic children a calm retreat at community events and help families feel supported.  WTVY
  • Former Dothan radio personality Chuck Leonard, known from a 1970s duo on WKMX 106.7 with Connor Vernon and later as a TV anchor in Columbus, is now in hospice care, and he retired six years ago + family says his condition is serious.  WTVY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dothan High School junior Cole Motzenbecker earned his 100th wrestling win Friday at his school as he became only the second Wolf to hit this milestone and vowed to keep a strong mindset for upcoming matches.  WTVY
  • Teegan Robinson of Dothan High made history by winning her 100th career wrestling match at a major tournament on Friday, Dec. 19. Teammate Cole Motzenbecker also reached the milestone as the only other wrestler to do so this year.  WTVY
